Supportive and nurturing early childhood education in Mount Gambier

‘We deliver a unique community-based centre that is progressive and inclusive, providing nurturing, high-quality care whilst fostering the importance of early childhood education.’

Nothing’s more important than finding the right child care for your child. With over 40 years’ experience delivering high-quality child care and education for children across Mount Gambier, The Mount Gambier Child Care Centre Incorporated is a not-for-profit centre and a proud member of the Community Children's Centres South Australia (CCCSA) and the Australian Community Children's Services (ACCS).

Child care that will enrich your child's development

We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to thrive and feel supported and nurtured. That’s why we foster partnerships with our children, families, and local community that focus on promoting warm, respectful and harmonious interactions.

We are a child-focussed centre and believe that all children have rights. That’s why we encourage our children to express their ideas and opinions, safe in the knowledge that they will always be listened to. We understand that children excel in a supportive environment that promotes strong and diverse relationships, interaction, an active learning environment, and a sense of wellbeing.

    About us

As a registered not-for-profit centre, we’re run by a management board comprising of parents and other members of the community. All fees are invested back into the centre and your child, and parents contribute their preferences to how this money is spent. Currently our focus for spending profits is on:

    • Staff training and Development
    • Renovations to our centre
    • Employing additional staff to provide better staff-to-child ratios than required by state legislation
    • Ensuring all staff acquire minimum diploma qualifications.

An inspiring environment for your child

We’re proud that our childcare centre is fully accredited, Sun Smart-approved, and breastfeeding and asthma-friendly. In addition, we encourage our children to care for the planet and take part in sustainability and recycling.

Plenty of time outdoors is important for all children. We provide children with a natural, attractive outdoor environment that they can explore safely so that they learn to love nature from an early age. What’s more, we grow our own vegetables, some of which your child will sample as our cook uses these in our delicious and nutritious meals.

At our centre, we follow the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) of Belonging, Being and Becoming (BBB). We also follow Primary Care Giving practices and a Reggio Emilia influenced curriculum catered around the individual needs of your child. You can find more information about this on our ‘Our Centre’ page.

19/04/2013 - Working with Professor Carla Rinaldi from Reggio Emilia, Italy

As part of the ‘Perspectives of Children in the City project’ developed by the City of Mount Gambier, staff members at the Mount Gambier Child Care Centre Incorporated were invited to share their journey with Professor Carla Rinalda from Reggio Emilia, Italy. The opportunity to work with Carla while she was Adelaide’s thinker-in-residence was an amazing experience and assisted us to further develop our understanding of the implementation of a Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood Education.

      'Broken Windows'
      Project

The children from the village are currently exploring the demolition of the old Mount Gambier Hospital. The project was inspired by educators driving the children past the old building on their way to Leg of Mutton Lake as part of the ‘children in our community’ project. The children always showed great interest and enthusiasm for the old building and from their conversations about it, the project was born.

The children have visited the site regularly during its destruction and are currently developing a plan for what can go in the space once the building has been completely demolished. We are hoping to work in conjunction with the City Council of Mount Gambier to enable the children to ‘gift’ something special to the new space.
